John: Throughout all her years of teaching, she’s always said there’s a strong correlation between education and nutrition. I thought it would be a great platform to give back. We wanted to serve and give back to the community. Medjine: As a teacher, I saw a correlation in what we eat and what it does to the body. Where did the idea behind Vibez Juice Cafe come from? I produced Wyclef Jean’s last two singles and have worked with different artists from Justin Bieber to Mary J Blige. John: I’m a music producer I write and produce music. Medjine: I’m a mathematics teacher of 19 years. We decided to pass by on a Tuesday afternoon to get the full vibe of the space and learn more about the mission behind the cafe. Opened by Medjine Altino and her husband John “Jube” Altino, Vibez Juice Cafe was created through Medjine’s connection to education. Recently, the Heights welcomed a new business to the neighborhood that promotes healthy living and plant-based treats – Vibez Juice Cafe. We will definitely be going again.The Jersey City Heights is filled with gems, from coffee shops to pizzerias to fresh food markets. Sally partcularly mentioned that it was a delight to find a restaurant without loud music, so you can chat more easily. Sally exchanged pancake recipes with Maya. ![]() Very nice pancakes, and went nicely with the ice-cream. Vegan Crunch! The clincher for me was that they served cordials, including root beer! I love Sarsaparilla! We pushed the boat out and had vegan icecream - mine with pancakes and Sally's with GF Chocolate cake. She had heard of these but this was the first time she had an opportunity to try one. Including scrambled tofu! Yum! Sally had a Buddha bowl. I played my man-card and had the vegan all-day breakfast. It has a lovely comfortable welcoming atmosphere. There are buddha statues for decoration as well. the owner, Maya, told us about the antique shop where she had bought the tables and chairs, and recommended the man who had reupholstered them! The room is decorated with a papier-mache wisteria tree with lots of imitation wisteria. It's a small place - couldn't seat more than twenty - but very friendly and lovely food. This one had a flyer in Pauline's Deli in Mossley. We are always on the lookout for vegan places to eat.
